Why should I have a lab test?
A simple blood test can increase your chances of reversing health risk factors that would otherwise not be detected, and establish a baseline of your normal ranges from which future tests can be monitored.
Do I need to see my healthcare provider to get tested?
Direct access testing allows you to have proactive participation in your own healthcare. Yes, your healthcare provider can refer you to One Lab, but it’s not a requirement in order to be tested.
What is the procedure?
First, you choose your lab test. Next, complete new client paperwork and consent form. The coordinator will provide a requisition form with your chosen tests. The lab will not draw your blood without the requisition. There, a certified phlebotomist draws your blood. The results are available by secure portal generally within 24-72 hours.
Do I need an appointment?
An appointment is not required at One Lab walk-in centers but it is encouraged to cut down on your wait times.
Should I fast before taking the test?
It may be required depending on the test. It is recommended that you avoid food and liquids for a minimum of 8-10 hours when testing for glucose, cholesterol, and triglycerides. Water or black coffee is permitted during your fast. If fasting is required for your test, it will be noted on your requisition or explained to you by the patient coordinator.
How are my Results delivered?
Your results will be uploaded to your secure online patient portal within 24-72 hours of your specimen collection. You may also request a copy of your results faxed to you. * Most test results are generally released within 24-72 hours, other tests may take up to 7 days.
Are my results confidential?
Absolutely. We respect your privacy and maintain confidentiality. You are the only one who receives the results unless you specify otherwise, with a signed HIPAA release.
When will I receive my results?
You can expect to receive most test results within 24-72 hours of when your specimen was collected. Other test results may take up to 7 days. You will receive an email when your results have been uploaded to your portal. You can then login to view and/or print your results.
What if I receive abnormal results?
If the test results are abnormal, One Lab strongly suggests that you see your primary care doctor, contact One Lab for a telemedicine consult with our medical director, or see a specialist. Abnormal results should ALWAYS be evaluated by a competent medical professional. Do not self-diagnose using the internet. Seek professional advice! One Lab is always here to help.
Will I be able to understand the results?
Yes. Results are easy to read and include normal reference ranges, with abnormalities indicated. We recommend you seek a healthcare provider to discuss results outside normal ranges.
What if I have questions about the results?
If you have any questions about the results, please contact your primary care physician. If you do not have a physician or would like to discuss any aspect of the test with a member of our team, please call One Lab. If a physician conference is necessary or requested, One Lab will be happy to set up a telemedicine conference.
Will my healthcare provider receive a copy of my results?
We deal directly and confidentially with you, and send the results to you. We can send a copy of your results to your Healthcare Provider only with a signed HIPAA release form from you giving us the authorization to do so.
